Founded in 2006, the original concepts behind AC-AF started to emerge in 2004 after founder Gita Jaffe had spent numerous years working in Sub-Saharan Africa. During this time she had noticed that there was a fundamental lack of support available for children and youth directly affected by HIV and AIDS.
Although plenty of ‘temporary’ solutions were available and many organisations worked tirelessly with adults and mothers, no organisations offered a holistic and sustainable approach for children and youth. Endeavouring to eradicate this void, Gita developed the initial model of the Orphan and Vulnerable Children Support Programme (OVCSP) and created Africa’s Children-Africa’s Future.
AC-AF is a volunteer-based organisation, currently working (and registered) in Canada and Tanzania, that is dedicated to creating unique and sustainable approaches to development issues locally and internationally. By providing a range of programming which encourages empowerment and involvement, AC-AF gives youth the tools they need to help in the fight against HIV and AIDS and resulting effects associated with it. AC-AF currently operates 2 main programmes; the OVCSP and u+me=we as well as a series of projects and campaigns complementing the aims of the two programmes.
